It's January 9th and I still find myself attempting to catch up with a long list of 08 releases, but there does seem to be a bright light at the end of this long dark yet illuminating tunnel.  It's my fault really, as I got off to a slow start to the year and it was not until last couple of months or so that I began to really delve into this past year's material.  With just about five or six films remaining until I'll feel comfortable officially posting my top ten films of 2008, I have already run into a problem. Well, not really a problem per se, but at the moment I truly feel that there are about twenty films that deserve a spot in my top ten, and no Slumdog is not one of them.  Just last night, for instance, I watched Woody Allen's wonderfully seductive Vicky Christina Barcelona with a cast that features Scarlett Johansson, Javier Bardem, Penelope Cruz, and Rebecca Hall.  It's a film that proves Pedro Almodovar isn't the only filmmaker who can extract a brilliant performance from the strikingly beautiful and talented Penelope Cruz.
