A Streak of Disappointment

I’m currently on a streak of disappointing martial arts films that started with Ong Bak 2; continued with Blood: The Last Vampire; and concluded with my recent viewing of Prachya Pinkaew’s Chocolate. Now, this streak of letdowns has got me thinking that not since the release of Wilson Yip’s Kill Zone: SPL back in 2005 has there been a martial arts film worth remembering. So, tell me have I been looking in all the wrong places or is it really that difficult to make a great martial arts film these days?

  1. try finding Ip Man, grand master of wing chun kung fu, which tells a semi true version his escape from China to HK. I believe there are canto/mandarin versions available with english subs.

  4. Thanks Steve. Will be on the lookout for both of those titles.

Yes, I have seen Onk Bak 1. It was better than Ong Bak 2, which doesn't say a lot though.
